Destitute is defined as lacking basic needs such as love, food, housing, and shoes. A consistent lack of basic needs can cause low self-esteem, anxiety, anger, and frustration, which can lead to guilt, shame, and hopelessness. Overcoming these feelings can be challenging but not impossible. Many people think great leaders are born, but this book will help you develop leadership skills that transform you from Destitute to Debonair. Debonair is defined as on who is confident, admirable, stylish and charming, also known as someone with swag! Cultivating leadership skills will propel you to succeed in both a professional setting and your personal life.
About the Author
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Deyonta Johnson was raised in a subsidized housing project in a single-parent household. Plagued with poverty, drugs, and violence within the community, Deyonta answered the call to provide a better life for as many youth and families as possible. Despite the challenges, he was focused and driven, resulting in him acquiring a bachelor's in criminal justice from Old Dominion University, a Master's of Public Administration, and a Doctorate of Strategic Leadership from Regent University. Dedicated to making a difference, he has devoted his life to advocating for youth and families from concentrated disadvantaged communities. He has been heavily involved in his church, serving as the Executive Director of the Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church of Gilmerton, located in Chesapeake, VA for the past 16 years. He is the founder and Executive Director of Youth Transformation Incorporated, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to transforming youth lives within underserved communities. He has extensive knowledge of the juvenile justice system and is a passionate advocate for court-involved youth.
Additionally, he specializes in working with juvenile gangs and is a lead interventionalist attempting to end gang violence via providing skills for young people to combat gang involvement. Well-rounded, Deyonta is passionate about serving youth and families, providing them with opportunities he was not afforded. He is a firm believer that anyone can transform from Destitute to Debonair with faith, drive, skills, and support.
